So we made a video for “Satellites“, the first track off the upcoming The Future’s Void. It was a fairly DIY affair. We shot most of the footage with a few friends over a long weekend and edited it via Skype screen-share. There were no stylists, DP, lighting crews, catering or make up artists. But we did have an iPhone that shoots slo-mo, a Canon, a fog machine, and a Microsoft Kinect. Sweet!
The effect vibes as either primitive or sophisticated, depending on your point of view.
And it was kind of a lot of work! As DIY often is. But it’s exciting that this common technology, none of which is high-end enough to be super-exclusive, can be hacked in ways to produce strangely beautiful results, if you are willing to put in the effort.
I’m also super excited about the “nightmare media cube” that goes along with it. All the footage in the screens in the video has been loaded into a neuromancer-style cube that you can rotate yourself as you listen to the track. I really love all these clips. Maybe at some point I will upload those videos in their entirety because the are quite beautiful. Then I could write a little about them as well.
Also, I promise that this whole record is not going to be a tech-fest. That subject can be both alienating and ubiquitous. BUT one more nerd point cuz in the video I also play my lil eurorack modular!!!
